Purchase Garmin Nuvi
The Navus Garmin GPS unit is mostly known to Jeep owners, who purchased vehicles from the dealership, under the Mopar name. Most people who just purchased it as a stand alone unit to be installed in their vehicles will find it costs around $600-$900, to purchase and install this GPS unit made by Garmin.
Make sure you have a warranty on it, because it will malfunction on you at some point, at least it did with me on two occasions. Now in most cases no problem you have the warranty to get it replaced, but getting it reinstalled is expensive and a pain in the you know what. Having it inside the Jeep you purchased from the dealership may also be expensive; most warranties from Jeep do not cover the GPS unit, unless you paid for extended coverage.
But outside of breaking down and Jeep's warranty issues, this unit is sleek, very responsive and one of the better GPS units from Garmin. It comes with a remote when purchased from the dealership specific to your car, which is kinda cool. You can also purchase a remote for it for around $60.00 for the Garmin stand alone version or around $200 for the beefier Mopar version installed in Chryslers across America. The response time is very good and the screen is bright and clear, with easy to navigate buttons and controls.
It also offers a high-resolution color touch-screen that I found easy to look at during the day and night and I didn't have to angle it as much as other GPS units I've owned in the past. I found this GPS unit has a lot of information to assist you on your drive and offers numerous options to tailor this GPS to your way of driving and has the ability to handle multiple stop directions.
The bad things are its fragility and that the maps will need updating about a year and a half after purchase, and it will cost you $200-$350 depending on which map updates your purchase and where from. I would suggest doing the upgrade if you travel a lot, as the updated map packs are right on, extremely detailed and they should be for the price you'll pay for them.
I did notice that our screen became quit unresponsive after a year and half also; I heard the new Navus 2 has addressed the fragility issues known to the original Navus. These issues of the screen becoming unresponsive to the touch plagued both the Mopar version and the Garmin stand alone version.
All in all the Garmin/Mopar Navus is a very good GPS unit as long as you keep in mind to get the warranty coverage you'll need for the GPS if purchased at the dealership; and if you purchase the stand alone option make sure you pay a little extra for the extended 4 year warranty, you'll use it, trust me.

Buy GPS Systems
November 22nd, 2009 | by admin |
GPS is an acronym for the Global Positioning System, and the GPS system constitutes a group of 27 satellites that orbit the Earth, and of these, 24 are active satellites, and the remaining 3 are back up satellites. If you are wondering where to buy GPS Systems, buyagpssystem.com is an excellent source. The GPS system was the brain child of the U.S. Department of Defense.
The principles of Triangulation are what the GPS system is based on, with the 24 active satellites relaying signals to the earth’s surface, which are then triangulated by a device known as a GPS receiver, and on the basis of these signals, you will be able to pinpoint an exact location on the Earth. To pinpoint a specific location, your GPS receiver should be able to pick up a minimum of 3 signals from 3 different satellites, with these signals being used to calculate the distance of each satellite from the other, as well as the distance of each satellite from the GPS receiver (in other words, you), resulting in these distances being calculated, and your exact location determined.
To Start:
First of all when we talk GPS, you must realize that there are different types of GPS Brands and Systems for different purposes, like: Auto, Handheld and Marine are 3 types.
Car GPS Systems:
A Car GPS System is usually meant for navigational use while driving. Some new vehicles usually have built-in car GPS systems, thus doing away with the need to buy another car GPS device.Car GPS systems have a street map feature, which offers you directions to your intended destination, and usually the basic car GPS system can be obtained for about $200-$250.
Handheld GPS Systems:
A handheld GPS system is a small and compact GPS device that will fit in the palm of your hand, and are made such so that they are easy and convenient to carry when on foot, bike riding, camping, hiking, hunting, fishing, etc.The handheld GPS devices fall into two broad categories: Mapping and Non-mapping, meaning: non-mapping GPS system typically shows your location, the time, compass heading, height from sea level, the strength of signal and the position of different satellites, and a mapping handheld GPS system will also display maps in addition to the other features, with both basic handheld GPS units running about $100-$150.
Marine GPS Systems:
Marine GPS systems are made for boats and other sea vessels, with the purpose of helping you to determine your exact co-ordinates so that you never get lost at sea while boating, deep sea fishing, fleet tracking, and various other marine applications.Unlike many other types of GPS systems, a marine GPS unit is typically weatherproof. These GPS units also feature marine mapping and some back tracking abilities, along with another feature that is exclusive to marine GPS systems, and that is active sonar. You can expect to pay over $250 for a basic marine GPS system.
How To Choose A GPS System That Is Right For You:
You will either be using your GPS device while on foot, or you will be installing it someplace such as your car, boat, mountain bike, etc., so if you are planning to use your GPS system while fishing, hiking, trekking, hunting etc, then the main criteria to look out for is the weight of the device and whether or not it is weather-proof, and if you choose a GPS system that is too heavy, you will not be able to carry it, thus making it useless. And as you could experience ill weather, buying a weather proof GPS system is an absolute must, and another feature is the Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS). where your handheld GPS device will be able to pinpoint your location to within 10 feet of where you are standing, which can sometimes be critical for adventure seekers and outdoor buffs, or if you happen to get separated from the rest of your party.
